After all the enhancements last year, on both topics, it feels weird to have to combine the 18A User Experience & Analytics Enhancements in one post. There are for once not that many changes in 18A to talk about. Except for one, I had to write a blog post as there is one BIG enhancement that for sure will change for some users how they will interact with Sales Cloud and Engagement Cloud.
Child objects now can have create and detail pages
That does not get any juices going right? Let me show what this means using an example and I am sure you’ll see the possibilities quickly.
When creating opportunities, revenue lines can be added in this little table on the bottom of the opportunity detail page. In R13 we already had the enhancement to detail them in a sidetab. But as revenue lines are stored in a child object to the opportunity object, with this enhancement, they now have their own create an detail pages. No longer any need to just work within that little list.
Once activated in App Composer, notice how the traditional choice list to select a product changes into a link.
And when using the link, a proper detail page for the revenue lines appears. That makes managing revenue lines with lots of fields a lot easier. Especially as we can define dynamic layouts for these pages also! Different layouts for different product types maybe?
And this mechanism is now available for all child object.
Oh, also notice how competitors can be better documented on opportunities in a sidetab instead of in a choice list.
Simplified UI for BI Composer
A huge change in user experience will be the modernized look of the BI Composer. As I have not discussed the BI Composer and its place amongst the reporting options in Sales Cloud and Engagement Cloud, my next blog post will be an introduction to the concepts, functionality and the new UI of the BI Composer.
Analytics side tabs for custom objects
On multiple blogs posts, I showed how reports can be added on sidetabs, both on list pages and detail pages. This capability has now been made available on custom objects also.
Looking forward to see how these new capabilities will be implemented and change the experience for end users!
